What's new at Pluto's Palette?
Share
Recently we celebrated our one year anniversary, and looking back we have made so many changes in our products, our offerings, and the motives behind the shop.
When I started Pluto's Palette, it was born out of a concern for safety and frustration around the lack of reliable gear on the market. Pluto had just blown through another $30 leash and I was frustrated I was spending so much money on gear that simply wouldn't – and couldn't – last.
That being said, we have made some major changes in the last month:
- Pluto's Palette will be aligning with force free training principles. That is, we will not be offering accessories for electronic collars (i.e. bungee straps), and slip collar/leashes will be "limited" in nature, meaning they can only tighten to the width of the dog's neck similar to a martingale.
- Again in regards to safety we have phased out regular metal quick release buckles and will only be using genuine COBRA® quick release buckles. The mechanism of regular metal quick release buckles is faulty at best, no matter how great the quality. Recently I have had many customers report that collars were breaking open with little to no leash pressure applied – this is a concerning issue and has led me to remove quick release buckles from my shop.
- Introduction of solid brass hardware. I have begun utilizing solid brass hardware where brass is selected. While brass plated was not unsafe, it tended to fade incredibly fast compared to other plated metals and did not look as aesthetically pleasing after a short amount of time. Solid brass is stronger, rust proof, and much more aesthetically pleasing than its plated counterpart.
